In methanolic solution phenol-formaldehyde condensates …

Indirect Catalytic Spectrophotometric Determination of Metamizol Following Oxidation by Lead Dioxide Immobilized in A Polyester Resin Bed

1996

Abstract A spectrophotometric-indirect procedure for the determination of metamizol is described. The method is based on the reaction of the drug in a solid-phase (lead dioxide immobilized in a polyester resin bed) in acidic media (perchloric acid 0.01 M as carrier). The lead dioxide reactor provides simultaneously an effective oxidation of the drug and a controlled liberation of Pb(II) which acts as catalyst on the reaction pyrogallol red-potassium persulphate; the oxidation of the red pyrogallol results in a less coloured solution. The decreased red colour (negative FIA peaks) is monitored at 520 nm. The calibration graph is linear in the interval 2–16 ppm in metamizol. The relative stand…

Efficient flow injection and sequential injection methods for spectrophotometric determination of oxybenzone in sunscreens based on reaction with Ni(…

2001

Spectrophotometric determination of a widely used UV-filter, such as oxybenzone, is proposed. The method is based on the complexation reaction between oxybenzone and Ni(II) in ammoniacal medium. The stoichiometry of the reaction, established by the Job method, was 1:1. Reaction conditions were studied and the experimental parameters were optimized, for both flow injection (FI) and sequential injection (SI) determinations, with comparative purposes. Sunscreen formulations containing oxybenzone were analyzed by the proposed methods and results compared with those obtained by HPLC. Data show that both FI and SI procedures provide accurate and precise results. The ruggedness, sensitivity and LO…

Proton Acid-Catalysed Transformations of Estrogen Derivatives: New Results and Some Mechanistic Aspects of theKober Colour Reaction

1994

The 3-O-methylated estrogen derivatives 1a-d and α-estradiol (1e) underwent sulfuric acid-catalysed transformations to furnish the steroids 2–6. The processes involved in the reaction sequence are regioselective sulfonation and, above all, the Wagner-Meerwein rearrangement of the methyl group at C-13. With the objective of obtaining further information on the course of the Kober colour reaction of estrogens, some UV/VIS and ESR spectroscopic investigations were also carried out.
